The course

Laid out on the sandy soil of the Melbourne Sandbelt, the West Course is the work of Alister MacKenzie, completed by Alex Russell and greenkeeper Mick Morcom after MacKenzie returned to Britain. It is known for firm, fast greens and the bold sweep of its bunkering, and ranks consistently among the finest courses outside the United States and Britain. The club's Composite Course, drawing holes from both the West and East layouts, has hosted the Presidents Cup and multiple Australian Opens.

Signature hole: The short par-4 10th tempts longer hitters to drive the green over a diagonal carry of bunkers, rewarding nerve and punishing the over-ambitious.
